Re: Voltage Drop

Voltage at the coil should be approx 9V with points closed or battery voltage with points open.

DITTO!

When I said two wires on the coil I was refering to two on the + side. The one on the - side was assumed and ignored.
You are going to see ~9 volts on the coil, and battery voltage on the Other side of the resistor.
The resistor is droping 2-3 volts to limit the Current through the coil.
If we can find full battery voltage to the non-coil side of the resistor, then all the wiring is good to that point.
Then we can all sleep well!

I have a feeling someone is going to jump in at any moment and tell us where the Resistor is located on the Volvo Engine. Hint, Hint!

Re: Voltage Drop

What do "KOER" and "KOEO" mean"

I Believe KOEO = Key ON Engine OFF ... KOER = Key ON Engine Run.

I also noted since the original Post, everyone wanted to replace the battery, You wanted to replace the coil.
That would all have been a waste of good money.

Lesson: Don't go buying parts at random and throw them at the problem. (A.K.A. Shotgun Troubleshooting!)
