voltage output to distributor

I have a 79 fiberform with two OMC 305 v-8 inbds. Starboard motor runs great at idle then cuts out at higher rpms. Distributor is getting condensation in it. One suggestion by a friend was to check the voltage to the distributor due to over-voltage could cause the condensation. The alternator on this motor was putting out 10 volts with 9 volts reading at the distributor. The port motor (which runs fine) puts out 15 volts at the alternator with only 5 volts reading at the distributor. What kind of voltage should I be getting, and what do I need to do to fix this problem? Thanks for all your help, folks.

Re: voltage output to distributor

10 volts is not enough..You need to find out why the alternator is not charging. You need 13volts while the engine is running. Get it charging first. Rev engine to around 1800 rpm first and see if the alternator comes on line (recheck voltage output).

Re: voltage output to distributor

Engine rpm's were ran up high with no change in output voltage.
