I am looking for an apparently hard to find Voltage regulator for my Pacific Mariner. The Delco remmy number on it is a 1116377. It also has a Kiekhaefer parts number 37707. If someone has a cross reference to a aftermarket brand that still makes it. I would appreciate the help.

Re: Voltage regulator

I have already. I don'y know what engine, what year, and the engine is either a 153 or 181. It is an oldie electrical system. It is a Pacific Mariner.

Re: Voltage regulator

Walker, it's a bit confusing. Pacific mariner is a boat brand, not motor brand. Kiekhaefer would indicate an outboard but 153/181 would indicate an inboard. Could you post more detail? Type of alternator, engine number, any decals in or around the engine bay etc. Type of leg and /or gearbox. Maybe a picture?

Aldo

Re: Voltage regulator

It is an inboard. It looks like an acdelco alternator externally regulated. I can take a picture tommorrow. The outdrive is a type 1. I will try to get more info later.

Re: Voltage regulator

It's an I/O, not an inboard. You may even have an old Mercruiser 110 (1963 to 1966), which was the 153.
It's OLD..... Your best bet would be to get a standard Delco single wire marine alternator, or one that has the proper mounting feet on it, instead of looking for a non existant external voltage regulator.
Any parts for that drive is also going to be very hard to come by.

Re: Voltage regulator

Walker,

I believe Bosch do a great external regulator. From memory the model # is RE-55. Don't cost much either.

I looked up that part number, 37707, and it comes up as an external regulator used on 12 different engines. From 1963 110 hp, through to a 1974 427 V8.

We can help to narrow down the engine by looking at the manifold. Does the manifold have a cover on it that the carb then bolts to, or does the carb bolt straight onto the manifold, with no seperate cover?

Chris...........

Re: Voltage regulator

The stern drive serial number I have is 206652. Is that an old one is there a conversion that is better. Are parts that hard to find for this drive.

Re: Voltage regulator

Stern drive number isn't a great deal of help, we need the engine model and serial number. HAve you looked at the manifold yet?

Re: Voltage regulator

Chris, look at his previous post, it looks like it's the 153 which could be the 110, or 120. Now, with a little bit of the serial number (part of it is missing, it needs another number.) it could very well be a 120/140 drive, but it could have been replaced previously also. So it's still a very old "Who Knows what" at this point.
No pictures and very little discription, not even a year.
WSH, you might look at the link below and see if you can identify your engine and drive.

Merc Parts

Re: Voltage regulator

Don,

Sorry about that. I didn't look at previous posts. Like you I look at a LOT of posts on these boards and don't bother remembering specific details of everybody's engines, or bother to troll through previous posts to answer questions.

The easiest way to get answers for the folks here, many of whom are VERY knowledgable (like Don, Bondo, rodbolt, Willy to name but a few), is to post ALL the relevent info in the opening post of the thread. I guess I'm a bit lazy that way. :D Love the easy life.....

Chris.........

Re: Voltage regulator

The carb does bolt to the plate then bolts to the manifold. The problem I am having is the guy had 2 motors that he had built. One was a 120hp one a 140 hp. According to him and he is a pretty straight up guy he installed the 140 on the boat and sold the 120. But he could have mismatched parts. The boat originally came with the 120 I believe.

Re: Voltage regulator

sounds like its a great time to update to a single wire altenator with an internal regulator. it could be worse, you could have the old 80-90 hp renualt engine :)

Re: Voltage regulator

I probably will head that way if I can't find any regulators. How hard a conversion is that one?

Re: Voltage regulator

NAPA sells the Delco single wire (MARINE) alternator. Like I said before, you need to verify the mounting feet are the same so the belts will line up with the pulleys. The only wire that is necessary is the 8 ga. red wire that goes from the alternator to the main terminal on the starter. You could just dead end and wire tie them out of the way all the wires to your present regulator and alternator and just run a new wire.
Here's a picture of the Delco marine alternator.

Re: Voltage regulator

Don, I was also going to be looking into this application for my 1973 GM 307, if you switch to a single wire, how do you get your ammeter and voltmeter instrument on the dash to work? Will they still work with the single wire hookup?

Re: Voltage regulator

Thanks all I think i am going to go the way of the 1 wire alternator. Thanks for the great info. One question what is the Slave solenoid for. I'm just trying to figure out this boat stuff and I thought cars were a pain.
