Please help I own a Merc 5.0 and the volt meter reads 10 v steady when idle and at 2k rpm. I have a dual battery system. Am I looking at a volt meter problem or is alt failing. Thank you.

Might be a bad boat meter but the easy determination is with a hand held volt meter.

Place meter probes on the Bat and see if boat meter matches hand held

Ayuh,...... My guess is, the charging system should be investigated,.....

Could be bad gauge, connections, alternator or all the above

Start trouble shooting with a DVM

10v and you wouldn't be starting or (most likely) running. Like AD said, check voltage at the battery. If it's good you probably have bad connections at the helm
