Volvo 270T outdrive with Tilt only

Hey All I just took the boat out and tilt stopped working. This has no trim cylinders tilt only. The little motor is running but the Rod isn;t moving to Tilt the OUtdrive. Havent taken it off yet but Just sitting here at work and It's bugging me. Anyone know what I might be looking at ? motor is working from what I can hear but no movement.

Hey Don my Rod aint even comming down to Unlock the pawl. It seems that somtthing may be broke because the motor is running but the rod that Pushes on the outdrive to lift it isn;t moving down. There's about 1 inch before it'll make contact with the Pawl release. Had someone hitting the "up" switch and that rod shold be heading down to the release mech for the pawl 1st and the start lifting the motor but it is'n;t moving at all. Sounds like I need to pull the tilt ? Or is the Ram rod that pushes the outdrive up in 2 pieces ? ....Weird tho even thought the electric motor is turning....

Its a screw drive and it sounds like it has stripped out. That is the sad thing about the 270T. It still used that damn "tilt system" and hydraulics at the same time. With the 280T they got rid of the electric lift. A much better deal. If I was you I would pull the little electric motor off the tilt mech and stick a flat head screwdriver inside of it and and see if you can screw it down that way. You will know if it is stripped then. Maybe its just the end of the little motor missing or something. If it is stripped start hunting eBay and even used they go for big bucks.
Also if you decide to pull it out remember that you have to unscrew the little pad on the end that makes contact with the outdrive. The sad thing about that is you may need to pull the drive to get to it. Also start soaking the base with some sort of penetrating oil for the next few days. I have had one installed for less then a year that required the assistance of a claw hammer and chisel to get out. It was going in the trash anyway but if needed I may still trying to get out.

thanks that helps me out alot ! So when you say I may need to pull the drive to get it out do you mean unscrewing the little pad part ? Hopefully it's a worm gear or somthing Think I could still get parts ? Or will I have to buy the whole thing ?

So when you say I may need to pull the drive to get it out do you mean unscrewing the little pad part ? = Yes sometimes you get lucky and it comes off with a finger but most times that thing is stuck hardcore.

Think I could still get parts ? Or will I have to buy the whole thing ? = I would look for the whole thing but thats me.

Well I took the motor for the tilt off last night and the Pin looks ok on the motor shaft not bent or damaged. I put a flathead screwdriver in the side of the housing and turned right about 20 times Nothing....No movement.....then turned 20 times to the left...and sadly nothing.....No movement in the shaft.......SO I'm guessing the worm gear and the horizontal gear are stripped or somthing....I took the 2 bolts off that bolt the assembly to the Housing and it looks froze on pretty good....I thought I could at least get it to Turn or move a little.....
Part number 875352 is 200 bucks. and thats just the worm gear and horizontal gear ! Yikes ! I'll be pulling the upper drive unit off and will try and get the pad off the bottom and see If I cant get it out.....
Any chance I could get at the worm gear and such without pulling the whole drive ?

I got the little foot off the bottom of the rod that pushes the drive up with out having to pull the outdrive....Now my problem is that the assembly wont move at all.....should I be prying from inside the boat ? Or maybe chisel between the Tilt system and the mount ? I've hit it with a hammer a few times but it aint budging. Should I get a rod and hammer from outside the boat on the piston itself ?
I really dont want to break it in the process.....Maybe put a pipe wrench on it and try rotating it a bit ?

You know its strange. I have had a couple come right out. A couple that needed a little help and one or two that nothing I did helped. Like I said, try soaking it down with some sort of lube for a few days. Remember that it fits in the hole in the shield snug so if you **** it in anyway it will wedge. The first thing you need to do is to get it to spin. If you pry on the base to soon it will wedge and you will never get it out.
