Volvo 275 and 285 Outdrives

1985 20' Bayliner Capri Cuddy. It came from the factory with a GM 305 but has been upgraded to a 350. It has a 275 outdrive and I got a 285 with the boat. Both are good as per the guy I got the boat from.<br />Is the 285 stronger, tougher, better?<br />In the NW Florida area, does anyone know what I can expect to spend having one or both outdrives looked at by a shop?<br /><br />I'm gonna be in the Bay and Sound, I can't risk being stranded. I do expect to make a few "shakedown runs" in the river before I take the family out.

The 285 drive is more streamlined than the 275, and the 285 had power steering.<br />Strength wise, they are the same, the gears and shafts are basically the same.<br />Here is a chart so you can see the difference.<br /><br /> Volvo Drive Chart

I did'nt know Volvo made jets. Do they still or was that one of those "back in the day" things.

I got it at work. Dealers have access to it in .pdf format, and I suppose I could get in deep do do for posting it. But I doubt much will happen over a chart...... I hope <br /><br />Yes, they still make jet drives.

So since the boat is already set up with the 275 without power steering, it would be smarter and easier to stick with it I suppose.<br />Any ideas on what it will cost to have the 275 gone through?
