Hi folks,
My friend has a 25' Bayliner, I think he said it's a 1976 model. He has a 350, with a Volvo280.

We took it out two weeks ago and it ran fine. We went out this weekend, it started fine and was able to cruise out, then when he gave it some gas, all it did was just rev hi and go nowhere. He put it back in neutral, and then forward, we can feel it ingauging, but as soon as he gives it gas, nothing really happens. Reverse works fine, just not the forward part. We had to cruise the boat back into dock goin' like 3-4mph, which sucked... :(

Anyone have this problem before or similar? How did you solve it? Thanks in advance for any help. :p

Hi Islasian

Behind on upper part of drive, there is a lid fastened with a screw. Behind the lid you can watch the shift mechanism work. Be sure it engages all the way, both in reverse and forward. If not, Inspect remote controller and cables to find error. Try to force all the way to foreward ( make someone engage in boat while you watch , motor off ) and test. You can sail without this lid, it isnt watertight. If it engages, but you still have slip, you might have spun the prophub, or drive has internal error at coneclutch.

Thanks G DANE, for the quick response. I'll check it out and see what comes of it. I'm hoping it's not an internal error as you have stated. :D

islasian

Islasian

Do you have a spare prop ??

It would be easy to swap and see if it is the hub that is spun - just a guess, as you probably dont give as much throttle when you reverse.
