Friends boat blew a trim cyl hose right at the cyl. Looks like the system was full of salt water and no oil by the time we got to it. Was grief enough getting the hoses off and friend inside the hull said removing the cyls is out of the question as there is no acess. Question, anybody have recomendations on a method to flush the system? We are both about to sink the thing, clymers and selock manuals are about worthless ( just say remove/ replace hoses) could have provided a cut away drawing on the section you cant see. We are replacing all hoses but my concern is the water in the system. Any ideas on flushing will be appreciated. Anyone want discription on how this thing is put together just ask, we have it figured out now. Glad its not my i/o and dont think i will ever own one. regards fred

mostly best ya can
if the drive assy and suspension fork is off then you can manually move the rams to assist in removing water.
if ya want a challenge I have an 88 27 albermarle with twins and jackshafts to do. both stbd cyls have holes corroded through them. the new conversion kit is about 800 dollars. and I will have to either remove the shield or cut notches in the transom just to start. I do have some tricks on getting that flipping pin out. none involve the factories grease gun fairy tale.

Thanks rodbolt, we have the unit off so the cylinders are swinging free. Might be a simple job compaired to that albermarle you plan to tackel. fred

it aint my plan trust me. I absolutly hate stern drive work. give me an outboard anyday, however the money is nice and I am fair at it. done it a year or two:), dont like to admit it much :) . if you hook a hose on the cylinder ports and push and pull the ram it will draw and expel fluid from the cylinder.
I use the cheapest ATF I can find to flush them.

Thats what we just finished doing. Used 10W oil and pushed and pulled. Changed oil 3 times and I believe we flushed it real well. Had two cyls. Will do the same with the pump before we hook up the hoses. Sure hope this is the last time I see this boat. thanks fred
