I've been running my boat every weekend since April with no problems. Yesterday after returning from a ride engine just cut out as we idled back into the dock. Never so it coming. Cleaned up the arrestor, was pretyy dirty. 15 minutes sitting boat started back up. When for another ride, 10 minutes later she cut out again. Plugs weren't too bad, going to change those. The distributor cap contacts were extremely corroded. Would that cause the engine to cut out. I'm going to replace, plugs, wire cap. How about the coil? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Coolwater

You have probably got two things going here. #1 There is most likely a short in your ignition module, which means it is heating up and is grounding it self internally. Cost about $100 and is relatively easy to change. #2 Is the ingnition pick up under the rotor in the distributor. With the engine at operating temperature, shut it down remove the distributor cap and on the back of the ignition module remove the 2 prong plug and read the ohms, it should be 700-900ohms read from the ignition pick up. If this is the cause it will require the whole distributor to be removed to get at the pick up.
I had this same problem last year and luckily it was the ignition module.

Also, there is a check to see if the field is collapsing on itself when it gets overheated. If you can get your hands on one get a Clymer or Selec shop manual. They are easy to read and follow even if you are not mechanically inclined. More to follow, we are having an electrical storm, sorry for the cut-off.
