Same problem I have been fighting since march. 2002 Volvo 4.3 carburated engine, had the fuel pump relay replaced 5 weeks ago and ran great. Back to the same problem again, ran it for about 1 hour, stopped for a while, started right up, throttled up, planed out and the engine quit at around 25 MPH. Could not get started and had to be towed. The engine has a low voltage electic fuel pump and the relay is probably out again. Could the altenator not be sending enough electricity to the pump and causing the loss of power. I will check wires and connections to the alt and have another appointment to have service and be laid up for another two weeks. Any ideas on what I can do, please help.

If the relay IS BAD again. The most likely problem is, to much amprege going thru the relay ie; bad wire or connection to pump or supply voltage, or faulty pump.
