Hi,

I'm looking for some info from those with experience. I'm looking at purchasing a used boat through a private sale and the marine mechanic I had inspect it said that they noticed a rattle coming from the timing cover area when they pulled the engine down from speed. They said it would require tearing down the front of the engine to investigate, then any parts on top of that. At this point my options are to ask the owner to pay for the repairs, or walk away. What do you guys think?

Unless they is good access under the entire engine to remove the sump pan bolts, the engine will have to come out. The sump needs to come off before the timing cover can be removed.
