Yes definitely keep me up to date on what you find. I cannot remember the type that I have on mine I just took one of the plugs to Napa and they gave me what I needed. It is raining here but I will let you know when it is dry enough to pull one out. I have tried setting the carbs to 2 and 10 but it did not make a difference, although mine should be set to 10 out from seated. It did actually stay running for me about 3 weeks ago, but I noticed I had a broken valve at the accelerator pump so I had to take it back off. This is a problem I have had since the engine was rebuilt. I was only able to get it to say running the one time, and that is one thing that is really driving me nuts.

From reading several posts I have decided that I have a vacuum leak,

What you should be doing is checking your engine, not just reading other posts. Check the vacuum with a gauge. If you reused the mounting gaskets when you took the carbs off, you can just about bet you have a leak there. NEVER reuse gaskets.

I was was thinking the same thing so I did order a vacuum gauge that I should have on Wednesday. I will be checking the vacuum when it comes so I can be sure that a vacuum leak is my problem.

I had my 171 running great today, I had to set my mixing screws to 2 1/2 turns. I have a manual for the AQ171A and it has a section for synchronizing and adjusting the idle. Do you have an email and I will set you a copy. This will help.

I have a manual for the AQ171A and it has a section for synchronizing and adjusting the idle.

I gave him the link to the manual, very early in this thread.
One note on the mixing screw adjustments in the manuals. They are preliminary adjustments only. Used to keep the engine running till it warms up. Then, fine tuning is required on any carb adjustment on any engine.

I have the .pdf book and a Seloc manual. I have done the same thing and it did not make a difference. Does your back carb make a loud sucking noise?

My back carb is not making a loud sucking noise. It does sound like it may be sucking a little air. Make sure when you are starting up the motor and making any adjustments to your carb's you have the intake air silencer's on (the caps). These do restrick airflow and you will want to set up your carbs with these on since you will operate the motor with these on.

My book tells me to set both of my idling screws at 3/4 turn exactly and both mixing screws at 1 turn. Use this as a starting point.

I finally got it running. I ordered a gasket kit and a vacuum gauge. I put the new gaskets on and it now purrs like a cat. I still have to sync them with my uni-sync and adjust the idle screw but at least it runs. I am also glad I did not need the vacuum gauge. I want to thank everyone on the forum for the help.
