Ebay has Volvo Penta 270-280-290 bellows. One has genuine NOS (how long have they been laying around?), and another has NEW aftermarket. Anyone have any experience or feedback here. I would thing that any aftermarket would not produce junk, with a lawsuit of sunk boats too great, and the new old stock, although genuine, sitting around deterioating not such a deal either. Stuff like this is keeping me awake at night! If I had a mind, I would lose it :D

Re: Volvo Bellows

Aircraft seals and o rings are all sealed and have a shelf life, sometimes very short. They deterioate in the bag. Considering the hassel of installing the bellos i would recommend the new aftermarket ( how new ?) or even genuine volvo parts. Books do not call out for any sealer and have had good results on a 290DP with just the correct clamps. Also have just convinced friend to leave the drive down when not in use to avoid the bellos taking up a set in the streatched position. regards fred

Re: Volvo Bellows

Thanks Fred. My concern is that although I always leave the drive down and stright, only in the water 3 months a year, zero problems, covered in white grease, out of the sun in storage, feels very flexible (like new), its going into its 8th year. Hate to fix something that aint broke.

Don't write off eBay so soon. Unless you are buying from a individual most of the major sellers are just fronts for places like U/S Boat and West Marine. If they are doing a lot of sales or multiple listing on the same subject (ie; bellows for Merc, Volvo etc) you can bet it is off the same shelf that the store up the street got it from.

Re: Volvo Bellows

Just got back from looking at a bunch of questions I asked, and the one aftermarket is China (an ebay marine part dealer) and the another (ebay dealer) quoted me a great price, Sierra part#,(with a link to the PDF page) and made Taiwan. I would imagine the Taiwan place makes them for Volvo, with the outsourcing nowadays. Also 1/2 price of the others on ebay. Got my manifolds and risers off him too. GREAT ebay person

Re: Volvo Bellows

See they are not all bad. I bought my boat off of eBay. You just have to be careful. Glad it worked out for you. Now I have to go open the latest arrival from a eBay auction. :D
