I have a volvo dp a1 with 2.30 gears that I can't seem to sell and a 19' glasply boat that has a 165 6cyl merc that is waiting to be put back together. The volvo came from a 4.3 that is seized up so it's going away and the boat can't fit a 4.3 without doing fiberglass work to the floor. So a thought was to put the dp behind the 165, all the parts from the 4.3 fit the 165. My only concern is the gear ratio, any thoughts on this? What ratio might be better? Thanks

Have never heard of anyone doing it, but good luck. Let us know how it works out. Lots of things in that conversion is going to be a problem.

Well that's why I'm asking what is going to be a problem?

I know this is kinda a dumb thing to do and doesn't really make sense. Here is a little more info to try to help it make sense. I have a boat with a BMW motor and drive that I just bought and the same day I bought it I found a good deal on the boat with the dp I have so i bought it thinking I might swap the BMW with the volvo. It turns out the BMW runs and work great so I don't have much interest in replacing it. Now the boat with the 165 merc I have had for about 7 months and have torn the floor out and built a mold for the floor. The floor is done out of the mold and ready to be installed, this is the reason why I don't want to run the v6 I would have to start all over. So with the dp just sitting in the garage and my 165 next to it I came up with the crazy idea of would they fit. The bellhousing, and the coupler all fit the 165 so thought I'd ask if anyone has a dp with an inline 6. I know volvo had a inline 6 and was hoping someone may have upgraded to a dp on one of them. I just don't want to cut the I/O hole bigger and find out the gear ratio is too far off and the boat is basically a bardge. Thanks for the input

glas23, I'm wondering if you have moved forward with your idea? I'm intrigued by it as it sounds like something I would try if it wasn't my "gotta be ready before the weekend" boat. As a project, its seems feasible. If you decide not to do it, and you're still trying to sell your DP-A, I'd be interested in your asking price. And what part of the country you live in.
Thanks,
Greener
