This is my first time winterizing this boat and the manual I have seems to show a water drain plug in the pivot housing of the out drive. I have drained the engine and completed all other winterization but I cannot find anything resembling a water drain plug in the out drive and I am nervous about this for obvious reasons. Can anyone shed light on wether I need to drain water from the stern drive or simply change the fluid? Thanks a lot

pull the hose running between the oil cooler at the transom and the raw water pump to drain.

change the fluid in the outdrive. now is a good time to pull the drive (or at a minimum, the top gear box) and inspect the bellows and u-joints.

Pull the drive and it should allow any water to drain from the drive if there is any.
Pics of the screw?

thanks for replies. i think the problem was that the clymer manual was showing a picture of the sx drive. i have since managed to print off a copy of the factory service manual and it doesnt show the screw in question. i did pull the water intake hose off the top of the lower unit and drained the small amount of water in it.

I went to the site and it wanted 41$ for the downloadable manual I asked for.
