Volvo Penta 125A leaking water from coolant pipe

I have a mid 80's model Bayliner Capri that has a Volvo Penta 125A motor in it. Took it "out" for the 1st time today, and didn't get any further than the dock. There is a copper pipe that runs from the water pump to the plastic strainer housing that is leaking water horribly. The pipe is hown as #6 on this schematic --> http://www.marinepartseurope.com/en/volvo-penta-explodedview-7742840-26-15776D.aspx and as I said, it runs under the heat exchanger and comes up and goes into the connector shown as #14 on this schematic --> http://www.marinepartseurope.com/en/volvo-penta-explodedview-7742840-26-15777D.aspx and that connector is screwed onto the stariner, part #12. The copper pipe has a rib on it where a sealing ring sits, but then appears to just be sitting inside the plastic elbow connector. There appears to be no clamp, screw, or flange anywhere to ensure the pipe stays in teh connector with a tight seal. Basically my water pump is pushing a ton of water up this copper pie, into that elbow, but when the water gets there, most of it is shooting back down and around the sealing ring. I have no idea how this pipe is supposed to stay in that elbow connector snug without some type of clamp system. Am I missing something? Could the plastic connector elbow and/or copper pipe be warped and not fitting tightly?

Re: Volvo Penta 125A leaking water from coolant pipe

I am contemplating removing the pipe completely, and cutting a section out of the middle. Basically I think I may try gluing the end into the plastic strainer with JB Weld then hose-clamping a section of heater hose between it and the other end of the original pipe. My thought is that, being a copper pipe, it may have warped and/or bent over teh years creating this problem.

There is a stud under the coolant tank that holds the copper pipe up tight into the plastic. I put a rubber hose over my stud to make it a little thicker and hold the copper tight into the plastic. Not a great design in my opinion but really I have more trouble with the seals between the heat exchanger and the coolant tank.
It might be time to remove everything and replace the seals.

I saw the bolt you were talking about minutes before you posted. I also removed i, sliced a nylon hose lengthwise, wrapped it around the bolt, and zip tied it tight. New gaskets had to be ordered, should be here Monday. Gonna reinstall the pipe/new gaskets, and Franken-bolt and give it a try. Thanks for input

I just replaced my head and had to do the same thing with the replacement. So far no leaks. Will test on the water tomorrow.
