I got this drive of a guy who had a gm 350 bolted to it.
I measured my prop shaft to see if it is a long or short shaft so I can order a prop,

After comparing my measurement to the figures/diagrams online my measurements are different.

Am I measuring from the correct point? (see photo) and please confirm if this is a long or short.
I measure 3.2 inches (82mm) and the short shaft should be 3.8 inches (97mm)
I know my other boat has a short shaft but I am unable to measure it at present.
I am 99% sure it is a short hub, but need to be sure

PS. the prop shaft also has female threads

Thanks

I always thought it was the prop hub that is the difference. If you've got the threaded end, you can use the long hub prop and the cone and locking bolt. I think.

You are in the same boat as me, about not being 100% sure :D
I would like to fit a long hub prop, more options....

Here's a picture of the short shaft measurements:

Here's what a long hub prop looks like on a short shaft:

If you have a long shaft, the prop doesn't matter since you use the spacers. The manual isn't completely clear so you ned to search prop suppliers sites to get decent information.

Oh, iboats will accept a propeller for return if you order the wrong one .

Do you know what the part number is of the cone that you used for the long hub prop on the short shaft?
Thanks for the input/photos

Re: Volvo Penta 280 long or short shaft?

Sorry I wasn't clear. The long hub prop won't fit on the short shaft. The pictures show the long hub prop on the short shaft and I had to exchange it for the short hub prop. The cone should be the same. The difference in those is that some of the shafts are drilled and tapped to accept the locking bolt. Mine doesn't have that so I use the locking tab washer. As far as I know, all shafts are threaded for the cone but if you use a short hub prop on a long shaft, you have to use the spacer.

Here's some pictures of the short hub on the short shaft:

Here's two different props on a workbench:

Disregard the photo below, put it there by mistake and don't know how to get rid of it

Mine has the female thread, so after reading on the Donzi forum I should be able to fit a long hub prop on to a short shaft using the correct cone and cutting line/spacer.

I'm not sure, but it looks like the hub from a broken linecutter is still on the shaft in your picture. If it is, might be a better measurement if it's removed. Here's the picture of a long shaft:

I had the same problem as you with questions long or short. I found out that there was a part of a broken line cutter still on the shaft. There is a very good chart for help finding the correct propeller on the iboats site.
