Hello community good day to all.

My question may be a little odd, I have a Larson 180 Sport 2008 with a Volvo Penta 3GLP-J, engine number: 4012232041 and after several years of struggling and many mechanics that have work on it, the engine is in very bad shape, I live in Cancun Mexico and unfortunately its very hard and expensive to find good mechanics and parts, so what I want to do is to change the hole engine but not for another volvo penta, Instead I want to use a regular car engine or something that can fit in that boat without modifying it.

Is there any other engine I can use for that boat or to replace that engine? the mechanic I have now, told me to ask in forums like this because lots of knowledge here.

Thanks in advance.

The 3.0 is a industrial motor. Can install a truck motor but this would require to make new motor mounts. Could use a V6 or V8 but should not use any of the carb or electrical components like alternator, starter, distributor because they are not ignition protected

This sounds like a horrible idea. Way too many items that need to be changed over to marine grade. Also, if you're having trouble finding mechanics as is, I'm sure you will have trouble finding a trade to build custom engine mounts.

I guess it all just depends on how much money you want to spend and exactly what the issues are with your current motor.
