Volvo Penta 3.0 GLP-E Question?

I am looking for some insight. I recently purchased a 2007 Four Winns. It has a 3.0 and we ran it long and hard this weekend. It ran well but I am concerned that when I had it maxxed out at 43 miles an hour it was pushing 5000 rpm's. It has a 14.3X19 aluminum prop. I am considering moving it to a S/S 21, I was told that this would lower the rpm's when maxxed out. Any thoughts on this issue?
#2 It seems pretty loud when running hard. If I am doing 30 miles an hour it is just fine at cruising but when I hammer it, I can't even hear my cd player. Might be my hearing....... My car mechanic was up this weekend and he drove it. He said it sounded good, a bit loud but everything was working correctly.
Any thoughts? I did insulate the motor cover but it didn't cut down any noise. The motor does have a trolling motor mounted above the prop and exhaust on the motor shaft and my mechanic suggested that this may be a reason for the exhaust noise bouncing back to the boat. The trolling motor is a great feature that we use every day, so I will live with the noise a couple a weekends a year by running it hard with tubers.......
Let me know what you think. Thanks for your input.

P.S. I also blew two fuses on my blower this weekend. Do you think the blower motor may be going bad?

Re: Volvo Penta 3.0 GLP-E Question?

The 3.0 GM engine used by Volvo Penta and Mercruiser, has a reputation for being a bit noisy at full speed. I've been in a couple of 17-18 feet boats with this engine, and they run great at e.g. 3000 RPM, but at full speed, they tend to make some noise.

5000 rpms is a bit high for this engine. A larger propeller will be better, at least for cruising, but for wakeboard/waterski the propeller may be OK.

Just a recommendation; don't run the engine at full hammer for longer time. The harder you push it, the sooner it will die......

When I say full hammer, I mean when the throttle can't take anymore. I don't believe this is healthy for any engine. Back off a little, on the handle.

I only run my boat (18 feet 4,3 V6) at full throttle for maybe 1/2 minute, just to see if it CAN, and then back off on the throttle.

Regarding the fuses, are they the correct size?

Thats a great little motor, you just need to prop it for the job your doing, I like to cruise at between 3 and 35 grand, motor likes that RPM and good on gas, I have a 19X14.75 and a 21X14.5 also a 23X14.5, thats my OD. prop very good on gas with 2 ppl on board, 3 grand = 30 MPH.
