Volvo Penta 3.0 GLP-E timing issue

I have a 2007 3.0 gas engine that seems to have developed a timing issue. Today it didnt want to shut down when I turned off the key, and continued to turn over several times before shutting off. I also had the raw water impeller disentigrate, and the bearing in the pump is destroyed. There is what seems to be raw seawater in the #4 cylinder on the plug. Any helpful advice to steer me in the right direction? Maybe someone has done this before and could give me a heads up! Thanks for you help!

To be quite honest, timing may be the only thing that isn't your problem.
If you haven't changed the timing in any way, then it's probably still fine.
The run on (aka dieseling) is probably from a high idle rpm. Over 700 rpm will do it.
The impeller and bearing tell me you need a new pump complete.
Water on the spark plug is probably from the engine dieseling and sucking water back into the cylinder.

So for my first question, what is your idle rpm?

Ok, so not a timing issue. I am not sure what the idle rpm is, but I feel like its more than 700. As soon as I get the water pump back together, I can check that. For now, what should I do to address the water in the cylinder? Mahalos Don!

Pull the spark plugs out and crank the engine over and blow the water out. Dry the sparkplugs off (propane torch works great just don;t overdo it) and fire it up.
If the idle is too high, disconnect the throttle cable from the carb linkage and see if it slows down. Then when you get the idle down, shut it off.

NOTE: The high idle is one possibility for the dieseling, not the only one, just the most common.

I will do this today and check back with a follow up report.

Crank the engine over at the crankshaft 1 crank at a time, blow out with air?

Thanks again!

No, use the starter to crank the engine over, it will blow the water out through the spark plug hole.
