Re: Volvo Penta 5.0 GLBY engine dies out

So I decided to try adjusting the carb after the rebuilt and got the engine to run a lot better, so I think all I need now is the proper adjustments.

Can someone help me with the initial settings on the carb? My engine is a 5.0 GL PBYC (1998).

Thanks in advance!

DonS; Thank you for all of the support!

The original problem was the Carb, the backfire problem came from the carb rebuilt as the mechanic left the accelerator pump level bent back and the throtle cam was not pushing the accelerator pump at the same time. I bent it back a little and adjusted the cam so it will accelerate at the same time. I put a Vacuum gauge and adjusted the idle mixture too. adjusted then the idle and the engine is in its best behavior.

Thanks again!

It's that type of mistake that is almost impossible to diagnose on a forum. Without actually seeing it, there is no way of knowing it's installed right or not.

Glad you got it running like it should.
