Hi all, I have a 2004 volvo penta 5.7 GI-E in a 2601 striper. Have a problem that has seemed to get progressively worse. Boat starts great cold fires right up at idle, but after its warm when you go to start it it tries to idle then dies. It only gets to about 300 RPM then spudders out, when you advance the throttle in neutral it will start right up and run great.

the boat has been tuned up with new plugs ,wires cap and rotor allong with all filters etc. Also the fuel injection pumps were replaced a few years ago . I found 2 sensors on the throttle body schematic that could possibly be the problem, 1 is a throttle possition sensor 3857487 and the other is an electronic engine controll sensor 3843750. Anybody know what these do? This seems to be some type of sensor issue to do with the temp? Any ideas? Have been told it may be the idle air control. Thanks in advance, Mike

I had a simular problem with my 5.0L volvo penta earlier in the summer. It ended up being the ignition coil. I got a can
of freeze spray for troubleshooting electronic components and sprayed it down good when the problem was ocurring
and it start right up. Replaced the coil and it has not acted up again.

Good Luck,

Stuart

Re: volvo penta 5.7 starting problem

I'm having similiar problem on my 2006 5.7L Gxi-G (320hp). It will start cold and run great. Then when shut off it will usually not restart, unless I put the throttle in high neutral (like it was flooded). I was told my fuel pump and coil are fine, that it might be a problem with my IAC (Idle Air Control) part # 3843750. Any suggestions?
