I just bought a 1987 capri cuddy 195. It has the volvo penta AQ 131a in it. Whats odd is there are no motor mounts. It is hanging off the transom with nothing but air under it. Call local bayliner dealer he says there was such a thing "stringer mount" he thought and gave me the VP dealer. Call them and am told there should be 2 motor mounts under the front. I look again and there are no signs of mounts or rails for a mount to sit on.
Can someone help me before i go insane?

LOL, call a Volvo dealer, not a Bayliner dealer. BL dealers sell boats, and know little about repair of the engine and drive systems.
The stringe was an OMC setup, not Volvo.

Yes the engine looks suspended, but there is a motor mount on the bottom of the engine flywheel cover that sits in a socket in the transom shield that supports the engine.
Works great as long as the transom of your boat isn't suffering from dry rot.

Re: Volvo Penta AQ 131a floating in mid air?

Thought i was goin crazy. The Volvo penta dealer told me there was supposed to be a mount on either side of the engine right behind the alternator .
The rest of everything wood is rotted i dont see why the transom is going to be any different.

Was this a good setup? Is it worth putting additional mounts?

Is there anything special i have to do to remove the motor? Is it described well in the manual?

If everything on that boat is that rotten, then you might want to reconsider the boat as being a project. Head over to theRestoration forum and find out what it takes to bring a boat back to life.
Then you have to figure out what is wrong with your engine and drive. They are old, and expensive to fix.
Then put it all together. Do you want to spend that much?????? Is that boat worth it??????

I have done the research on replacing the deck stringers ext. Motor and drive are in good condition. Carb is apart and soaking in cleaner overnight. Will fire the engine tomorrow to make sure its good.
The floating engine just kinda had me stumped.
