Hello everyone, I recently put my outdrive (volvo penta dpsm)back on the boat after my annual spring maintenance and replaced the bellows. I found that my shift cable nut(at the outdrive) has to be threaded all the way in to be in proper adjustment and honestly needs to be atleast 1 more turn to be fine tuned but i ran out of threads. The cable appears to be fully adusted as short as it can be at the helm. This was my first time taking off the outdrive on this particular boat and when removing the outdrive I disconnected the shift cable, but didnt unthread the nut on the end. I didnt pull very long or hard before realizing the cable was stuck. I did remove the pivot housing so I had disconnected the cable retainer and it only appears to have one slot for the retainer to hold it. I would think that it would have just pulled the shifter at the helm if anything but not sure why it appears to be a 1/2" longer. I vaugely recall it be threaded 1/2 way on and dont recall if it was actully in the slot when I took it off. It there a solution to this anyone knows of?

The cable housing needs to be in the slot. I would confirm that, then adjust as best you can and see how it shifts. Maybe the cable is stretched. If it doesn't shift well, then I'd replace the cable assembly.
