Volvo Penta Factory Fuel Pump - No better than aftermarket?

Fuel pump failed on my 2002 Cobalt 226 with 5.7 GXI (red block) engine, late July 2020. On advice of my service guy, paid over $1200 for Volvo Penta logo'd factory replacement (fuel assembly part number 21608511), heeding his cautions about quality and fire risk (??) of third party aftermarket parts (which were much cheaper - $200-$400). In early August 2021, the Volvo factory pump has now failed...despite very low hours/usage due to COVID...and is of course not being covered by Volvo under warranty (barely outside of 12 months). I am now gun shy about paying that much for another Volvo part...can't find a way to leave a bad review with Volvo about it...wondering if there's any experience (positive/negative) out there with aftermarket replacements? Thanks in advance.

I got a rebuilt pump for my 2004 4.3 from mancavemechanic.com. Super fast shipping and he answered emails quickly. So far, no issues.

I replaced one of my pumps with a cheapie off of Amazon in 2017. Everything about it appeared identical to the Volvo Penta original. I just replaced my other pump at the beginning of the season with another $200 pump (I have twins). Both are running fine. A fellow in my marina who busted on me for being cheap recently got towed in because his Volvo Penta pump failed. It was replaced last year.

I have heard fairly good results with the aftermarket pumps. There may be a few lemons out there but for the price you can buy a spare and still not be near the cost of the OEM. I would suggest purchasing an aftermarket to get you through the rest of the season and have your old one rebuilt. I rebuilt mine a few years back off season, it was a fairly easy process and I learned a lot about its function during the process.

I thought I read awhile back if a volvo part is installed by a volvo approved shop, the warranty on the volvo part is doubled in time. Might be worth looking into.
