Volvo Penta GXi - Set initial timing?

Evening, all. I did my fair share of Google-fu'ing this before asking, but I can't seem to find a straight answer. I have the Seloc manual for my engine (2004 305 GXI-e AQ) which says in the specification area that the initial timing should be 10deg BTDC but provides absolutely no information on how to go about setting it. I've seen some engines that require jumping a pin, but I don't think that applies to mine and I don't want to risk frying my electronics.

I found this manual online (http://boatinfo.no/lib/volvo/manuals/5057a-f.html#/76), but it references a different manual altogether for setting the timing - 774218, which of course, doesn't appear to be available online that I can find.

Anyone able to assist with some information?

There is no base timing mode for a GXI model. They all have the HVS distributor which is not adjusted. If your having trouble or issues then there are possible changes but first need to know they are

Not having issues, I just replaced the engine and slid the distributor into its home 'more or less' pointing at the #1 cylinder on the cap with #1 at TDC. Does the engine manage the timing from there? If there's no base timing, why does that manual reference setting timing on the GXI?

I ran it for a little while and it ran really well, only exception being at idle, which may be due to the fact that its still tight and has less than an hour run time on it. I just didn't want to do any harm by the timing not being right.

There is no base timing but timing is set. Since the distributor was removed, adjust as illustrated below

Just to follow up here for anyone else that has this question down the road. AllDodge - your picture cleared it up perfectly and it appears I was just off a tooth as you have very limited rotational movement due to the intake riser and the shape of the distributor cap. Moved it over a notch and she purrs like a kitten getting a belly rub.

Thanks AllDodge!!
