Good afternoon everyone. New to the forum and appreciate any assistance. I have a sunseeker portofino 31 1989 - 2 x 5.7 Petrol DP volvo pentas. Day one of ownig the boat port engine would not go astern. Found out that the shift cable is ok but there is movement. Bolts and plate still present but not doing anything. I can move the cable by hand and i can see when i try to engage it sometimes works and other times just wont move enough in the leg to engage the gears. Trying to work out what it is that keeps the cable pinned, has something fell off. Iv tried putting a jubille clip so i can go out and keep boating but of course it does not stop it moving the opposite direction. Checked the other leg and cant see a washer of any sort. Can any assist ?

Not sure if the DP is similar, but this is what my SX outdrive uses for a locking pin. Located here....

Hi. Are you sure that it isn’t doing what they are known for..that is that it’s actually engaging astern, but the outdrive is lifting up, because the reverse locking catch is worn ?
