Thank you ever so much. I will get these downloaded and get the parts ordered. I think I will spend the money for wires while I am at it and have it torn apart.

You just saved me a ton ov money and time using a distant boat shop.

Since I am new to this forum business, can I keep this open in case I run into anything, or start a new request?

As long as it's still the same hard starting problem, it's actually best to keep this one open. It has all that has been done in it and it's just a continuation.
Now, if you wanted to do some drive work or something, then you would start a new thread or it would be lost in this one.

I pulled the plugs and the second and third cylinders on the right side were full of water again.

What's next????????

Sorry, that was the left side facing engine. I quit puling plugs cause I'm disgusted.

Don't get discusted, you still need to save the engine. Go out and pull the plugs and go through the process again to get it started. This time, DO NOT start using the muffs and water do it dry.
Pull the raw water pump impeller if you want then start it and run it for 15 to 20 seconds at idle. Then, it's time to pull the riser off the bad side and look at the gasket surfaces after you clean the gaskets off. Bet they are almost non existant.

Okay, I won't get disgusted, but I need some info. I can turn a wrench but where is the raw water pump impeller and what is the riser and where is it???

Also, I will take the plugs out of the right side becuase I did get water in there the other day.

I looked through my parts manual and cannot find the riser or the raw water pump impeller. I know what the impeller looks like but cannot find it.

I have the plugs in and ready to start but still cannot find the impeller.

I gave you a link to the service manuals. Look at the cooling section of the engine manual. The manual number is 3850076.

There was no water in the right side.

Okay, engine started right up. Idled for about 10 seconds. I also found out what the riser is! Going after the gasket.

Removed riser gasket. it seemed to be intact. Stuck to riser but I got it all off.

Also noticed that there is more water in the 2 and 3 cylinder.

What do I do next besides change my boating plans for the 4th!!??

Post a picture of the manifold and riser gasket surfaces. Since you didn't know what a riser and manifold was, I doubt you have the ability to tell if it's good or bad by looking at it.

Will do, but it is 10:00 pm and I am working out in the driveway. I will get a pic tomorrow morning before I go to work. If I don't have time, I will get it right after work around 5:00 or 5:30.

Sorry for your troubles PJ. Interesting thread though. How exactly does water get into the engine when it's not running? I was not awre this could happen and would definitely like to prevent it if possible. Are there supposed to be valves to prevent this. Just wondering.

Not sure yet. With Don's help, we thought water had entered through the exhaust. He said that if the exhaust got lower than the water level such as over loading the boat in the back, it could happen.

As of now, it is entering when I run it with the muffs on. Still trouble shooting.

Leaky head gasket? I was getting water in my cylinder because of it. Mine was a '79 Volvo.....
