Volvo-Penta tilt gauge

Hello friends:The first time out this year I seem to be having trouble with my drive trim indicator.Whether I have the drive right up or down the indicator reads 10 right-up should be 40 right down -9 what could be causing this situation? Thanks Star

Broken rack on the helmut, broken gear in the steering shaft, bad potentiometer.<br />A year and model would be nice to know.

Hey SB!!<br />as I recall, your's was a volvo too, and I had problems with my gauge and trim buttons, and turns out there's a plastic piece with teeth on top of the outdrive that controls the trim gauge, and effects the trim buttons too it seems. Mine was broken, and our friends at 50 Point are putting the part in this weekend. Perhaps your's has gone faulty as well, and you may want Jeff to look at it for you Good luck!!<br /><br />BTW Don S, I was in your great town last week on the Veendam, and you've got a beautiful place there

Hello jawzee:You were right on last fall before it went in for bellows I remember see a white "band" with teeth ( I wish I knew the part name for the "band".I just looked now the band is gone (I wonder if when they did the bellows they may have forgot to put it back in.I tried to call FMC but they are closed now.I am not at all saying they forgot to put it back it may have broke,I cant find it under the boat or garage but I do need to get it fixed.Can you tell me how long it took to get your part ordered and what they charged for install? In all the "blow-up" pics I see I cant see that band with the teeth on it,maybe our friend Don can chime in and help with a pic and name.Thanks

It took a week or so, but if you saw the part that easily last year (Jeff had to dig for mine), then it was probably broken already, but who knows Check with Jeff or Laurie, and I'm sure they'll get it fixed for you too.

It's known as a "gear segment" item #31 in the picture below. They cost about 2 bucks and they have a tendancy to break where the Nylon screw goes through, then the pieces fall off.<br /><br />
