Re: Volvo sterndrive

Not a whole lot. Diffrent models for diffrent years. The 270 (the older)mainly came with tilt only (raising for storage). The 280 have trim and tilt. The both of the use the same props (all size 15,17,19...) They are both as strong as each other. It all depends on what transon shield you have. If its not set up for trim (280 shield) there is no sence of getting it unless you plan on changing it also. M

Miller, watch out for the gear ratios on those drives...around here we usually find the 270's with 4 cylinder ratios [2.15:1?] and the 280 with V8 ratios [1.6:1?]....I would say go with the 280...they came with trim, or just the electric lift......

Hi
The 280 drive has a better exhaust design, adding a bit to performance. It is true about the gear ratio, but as well 270 as 280 are made with 2 or 3 different gear ratios, designes for the engines. You have to know which engine it was Born with / running with and check volvo manual. Great drives. the only error i have ever seen is the clutchdog, working with friction. They can be worn and slip at low rpm.

Oh i forgot to mention:

A great of the 280ties are only made with the electrical tilt for storage and iddle speed too. I think these will match the 270 collar.
