you need to keep the 290 intermediate with the 290 transum shield. You're on the right track but I still think you should have someone swap out the upper and lowers for you if they are truely shot.

Do you think your 290 intermediate is usable?

Yeah, I think the intermediate is fine. The upper gear housing is probably okay too. Its mainly the lower unit, the case on the lower has been repaired with j.b. weld, its cracked, very corroded...its bad.

So, I suppose thats what I'm going to do, put switch the gear housings. I'll look into the process of doing it, while I am seeing if I can get someone thats done it a time or two. I've done rear differentials before, part of me thinks its pretty similar and I could do it, so we shall see what ends up happening. I'm sure I'll keep the questions coming!
