volvo vs merc alignment question

[oops!]

so sorry to ask this guys.......

i have read the adults only and hit the search engine....but that is not working for me.

the boat is an 07 with a volvo single prop and a 350.

i can align a mercruiser in my sleep.

tomorrow i am pulling the motor and repairing the transom then re installing the drive/motor.

are there any differences in the alignment of the volvo vs merc/,,,,,is there any thing special i have to watch for?

i have to re bolt the outer plate to the transom, as the boat hit a rock at 50 mph and tore the outer transom housing from the back of the boat.....1/4 inch seperation from the hull !.

the outer plate seems ok.....i think it just tore the threads off the lower thru hull bolts.

the drive has been repaired.....i wont go into the damage of the fiberglass or the rest of the boat....but it was basically a "hurricane" boat.

i have not done a volvo before.....i have seen them done after a few beers and they seem a lot simpler than a merc,,,,but is there any differences i need to pay attention to?

p.s. i do not expect any changes to the inner plate or the front isolaters, unless i have to totally replace the transom......but at this stage (till i get in there) i wont know

[/QUOTE]Nope, it'll be the same concept that applies between the two manufacturers, You even use the same alignment bar.

I believe the two top nut's to the front motor mounts are a little smaller size than merc's though, Other then that it's pretty much the same concept as far as alignment goes.

Same process of alignment, same alignment bar.

Be sure to use a new rope gasket on the transom shield when you put it back together. and make sure the transom shield is not cracked where the lower studs screw into the transom shield.
