I have a 06 rinker 226 with a Volvo penta 5.0L GXI. It has a cracked block and must be replaced. I want to upgrade to the 5.7L Long block only but what other cost will be associated with the conversion other than the cost of the long block? For example computer upgrades, head upgrades, and so on. I am working on a budget but would really like to upgrade if the cost difference is reasonable as the boat is almost underpowered in my opinion at 270hp. Any idea what the hp would be if I could do just a long block only swap use my heads and CPU and so forth intake? Thanks in advance for your time.

check the part numbers for the ecm and injectors for the 5.0 GXI and the 5.7GXI and that will give you the added parts upgrade cost.
also check the intake and exhaust valve part numbers that will tell you if there was a valve diameter change.
cant remember about the injectors but the ECM,s are different and wont usually interchange.

Re: Vortec 305 to 350 long block swap.

I have spoken with several people that tell me the swap will be fine. The 5.7 will not preform at full potential but will out preform the 5.0 then again I have had those that say it will not work. I have tried to contact several Volvo dealers and Volvo tech line. The dealers have no idea and a consumer can not speak to tech support. Any insight would be greatly appericated. With my luck it's a loss either way!!!!
