Im going to replace my 4.3 with a new vortec style i have a 1.84 ratio is this going to be ok or will i have to regear Isnt the ratio based on hp

You should not need to regear. I think the difference in HP you are looking at is around 25-35 hp- in my opinion that is not enough to justify the cost of regearing, which would be similar to doing a full rebuild of your upper gearcase plus the cost of a new gearset. It would be more cost effective to change the prop, but I would wait and test it with the currect setup first (i.e. test with new engine, same outdrive gears and same prop). If your goal is higher top speed only, and you can already pull the proper rpm at WOT, then maybe look to going up 2" in pitch on the prop.

Ok thanks i have a 2 barr carb is it worth it to go 4 with the vortec just wondering before i order a intake

Do some searches, it's well worth it to go with an edelbrock performer and 4 bbl carb. gears are fine, you;l likely need to reprop
