Anyone know the exact size of the 6 bolts that bolt the 270 drive to the transom on an '85 Bayliner 19' Capri? In the manual this item is shown in Fig. 56 as #58 (screw).

Its whatever socket fits on it isn't it. Does it seem to be an odd size?

Re: VP 270 drive bolts

The nut take 3/4" wrench. One of the lower bolts/nut/washer has a lot of rust on it so I was thinking of replacing it -- assuming its a standard large carriage bolt I can get at my local marine supply store. I don't want to pull it out until I'm sure I can repalce it without having to order from VP and buy 6. It does not appear to go through anything internal to the drive so I would think it should be pretty simple once I know the size (diam / length) for sure. There's plenty of entra length on the inside of the transom.

I's probably a 1/2" Galvanized carrage bolt if it's a 3/4" wrench. measure the square hole in the transom shield.
