I am getting a water leak from between the metal tube and the plastic fitting (see pic).

The tube runs along the starboard side of the engine, and carries raw water from ?? to the heat exchanger/raw water tank (I think). In the lake the leak is significant and filled up the bilge (I'm new at this boat thing, all the space under the floor) within 20min with the engine running. The problem is I took it apart tonight and can't really see why it leaked. I'm afraid that maybe the tube just pulled out of the fitting far enough that water was able to leak past the seal; my concern is how do I keep that from happening again? Everything seemed tight when I took it apart, I don't think loose bolts or straps could have contibuted to the problem. Here are pics of the fitting and the tube. Any ideas?

And get a bilge pump with an automatic float switch.
