I have a VP SX-M drive, serial number 4112082228 and product number 3868892; it's time to replace my drive and exhaust bellows with genuine VP parts. Does anyone have the correct part number for a bellows kit that has both bellows in it? I can't seem to find the correct drive bellows kit for my boat, much less a kit that includes both bellows.

Second, it looks like the little grease extension tube has dry-rotted right around the zerk fitting, and I would like to get a new one. Does anyone know where I can find this part number? I want to replace this part; I do not want eliminate the tube and tap the lower unit.

Third, I have all the service manuals; while informative, they are difficult to read, at best. Just looking at the lower unit, it looks like I can just remove the six stud nuts, remove the shift cable, and remove the aft hydraulic ram pins, and the lower unit should slide right off. I can temporarily zip-tie the rams up and out of the way while I replace the bellows. What I can't seem to figure out, however, is if an allignment bar is necessary. The service manual doesn't mention the allignment bar when only removing the lower unit, but many posts do mention it. Honestly, is the allignment bar necessary when only replacing the bellows?

Thanks in advance.

An alignment bar should be used annually as you should be removing your drive annually. Definitely buy one.

I am sure someone can look up your serial number to determine the model number but it might be easier to get the model number. It is listed on a tag on your engine.

In the mean time, what is your model number?

There are no "Kits" for Volvo that contains all the parts. You need to order each bellows seperately. There are only 2.
Just scroll up to your original post and click on Volvo Penta Parts. It's the only official Volvo Penta parts catalog, and is sponsored by iboats.
Has all the OEM part numbers.

If the OEM manuals aren't good enough, then you probably need to find a VP tech to do the job. The aftermarket manuals contains about 1/8th the info in the OEM manuals.

And 1/2 of the 1/8 is wrong!

First, thanks for all the info.

Bruce, what model number do you need? I supplied the VP lower unit serial and product numbers in my first post.

Don S, It's not that the service manuals aren't "good enough," at all. Instead, they are simply difficult to read and oftentimes have you do more than is necessary for a particular job. I've found that I just do what makes sense, using the service manual as a reference...Besides, I think my skills as a sandrail and hot rod fabricator are adequate to change the bellows on a VP.

Furthermore, no service manual or online parts store (even the official one sponsored by this site) has the part number for the grease extension tube. I know for a fact that these parts are wear items (not to mention when they are removed according to the service manual procedure, they are nearly always broken,) and I'm just looking for the part number. Any help?

Thanks,
Jon

You have to know where to look for Volvo parts. You won't find it in the outdrive breakdown, if you want to find parts for the transom shield and trim system, follow these directions.
Above your post click on Volvo Penta Part > Drive(lower unit) > scroll down to the bottom of the page to TSK and click on TSK SX-M > Under TSK 98-05 click on Transmissions (Yeah, transmissions trust me) there you will find your parts.

The part numbers are here, here is the grease tube. Item 14

Bellows

And yes, you use the parts of the manuals that are needed. That is how they were designed to be used, + they were designed to be used by Volvo techs, not DIYers.

Don, you're a lifesaver, my friend. I am definitely a better grease monkey than I am a Internet user, that's for sure!! Man, I never thought to look in the "transmission" section.

Thanks again,
Jon
