I have 1989 vro 110hp johnson that periodicly sounds a lack of oil alarm. The primer bulb on the oil side is not always as hard as I think it should be and as soon as I sqweese the bulb the alarm stops. We can cruise along for 15 min. and it will go off again (sometimes) then I sqweese the bulb and it stops. It never happens at WOT. I'm going to change the bulb but have a couple of questions: Is there any difference between a bulb for the gas side and the oil side? The old line feeding the oil is also very long it's coiled up in a circle with a couple of wrap ties. Will this affect it? Should I cut some out? Should I also buy new line? Is the oil line any different than the gas line?
I also checked the screen in the oil tank and everything is very clean.
We don't get out to the lake very often and it's at least an hour drive to the closest lake to test it out so any info would be great.
How long can I run it on muffs to see if what I change has made a diffence?
Going on holidays with the family in two weeks and hoping to prevent a breakdown on the water.

Re: vro alarm

i would get rid of excess line. same bulb, and hose. as long as you have a good water supply, you can run on muffs forever, but don't go off from it. muffs have been known to vibrate off, burning up a motor. the oil side of your pump may be dieing also.

VRO conversion w/ pump still working

if the fuel side on your Pump is still working it is very simple. unplug the 2 line harness going to the oil tank, unplug the 3 or 4 wire harness, going to the Vro pump. cut and cap the oil line going into the motor. add oil to fuel tank, mix well, then remove fuel line at top carb, catching gas in a container, pump the fuel line bulb until you get premixed gas to the carb. you can tell as it will change color. put line back on carb, and go boating.

Re: vro alarm

I'm planning on changing the bulb and I will cut out any of the extra line at the same time. I looked into the cost of a new Vro pump, 415.00 bucks:eek: is alot for the 5 or 6 tanks of fuel I burn a season. I'll keep a close eye on it, if it continues I'll disconnect the oil side and mix. The boat is a 1990 1800 capri so I see a resto project in the future.

Thanks for the info.
