Have a remanufactured 1991 Johnson 70 with a disconnected VRO. Just fired it up for the first time and I get an intermittent alarm. Is there any easy way for a novice like me to disconnect the alarm or should I take it to the shop?

I appreciate any responses.

There are two alarm wiring harnesses, one from the oil tank and one from the VRO pump.

You will probably have already disconnected the wires from the oilk tank.

Find the multi-wire harness leading from the pump to the main engine harness and disconnect the amphenol (plug) near the main harness. It should have 4 wires. Protect both ends of the amphenol with electrical tape.
