Re: VRO Johnson
Howdy, cotters. Is this a retrofit or a replacement? In general, putting a VRO system on a 80s OMC is sort of like putting Lucas electrics in an MG. . . inviting trouble. In theory, it is a great idea but in execution it is an unreliable system. If you still have the option of backing out and using premix, I would recommend it. If you have to go forward with it, go to your nearest marine or auto supply shop and get Clymer's shop manual #B736, which covers 48 to 235 OMCs from 1973 to 1989. There is a good section on servicing VRO systems and there are wiring diagrams.

Again, ask yourself why hundreds of VRO systems have been removed and the engines run on premix.

Good Luck.
JB
