to all OMC VRO experts,
rebuild my 90hp crossflow, and today took her to the lake for some testing.
I am kind of lazy, so like to use the vro, let the vro figure out how much oil she needs.
but before going full in, did some testing on the system.
Mind you, this is a 4-wire vro pump, no diodes in the wiring harness, year engine 1991.
Mixing the gas, untill i am 100 % sure alarm system is working as she should.
This what i found:
1-low oil system works, setting a low level in the oil tank triggered the alarm to a beep per 30seconds.
2-checked the heat sensors in boiling water and they ground when getting near 100 degrees celsius
But....
3-no oil alarm is strange.
checking it on the hose, i disconnected the oil supply hose at the vro and got no reaction at idle rpms
I just pulled the oil hose off, and let it drip the oil out, no alarm....
I plugged it off to create a vacuum, no alarm....
So, my first reaction was the vro no oil sensor/rpm counter is broken.
But when on the lake at 4000 rpms, it suddenly went crazy, it actually worked? What the .... is this.
De-throtteling it to idle stopped the alarm completely.
I am mistified, is not this system to work at all rpms?
In this sistuation i can troll all day without oil, letting me cluless of an oil problem.
Can somebody explain this to me, preferable a omc mecanic who worked on the vro's?
Pls do not bash this thread with: get rid of the vro and mix. Thx in advance for any help clarifying this to me.
