VRO oil tank circuit board repair

Is it possible to re-flow the solder on the circuit board in the oil tank or is it sealed in epoxy? My '91 120hp sounds a constant alarm when the key is turned on, and I think I've narrowed the problem to the oil tank electronics, but I can't find any internet postings about repairing the circuit board, or even pics of it. I've re-soldered the connections numerous times on the instrument panel and relays on my old Volvos, but didn't know if cracked solder joints were any of the problem on the VRO.

IF the alarm goes away when you disconnect the tank wires on the motor, then the oil pickup assembly is at fault. since all it does is let you know there is about a quart of oil left in the tank, you can leave it disconnected and just visually inspect the oil lever occasionally and when fill up with gas.

I agree, but with the oil pickup assembly disconnected, I don't get the "chirp" when I turn on the key. I'm not willing to buy a new assy. but I thought if I could repair this one, I'd get the familiar sound when I turn the key.

I have seen the pick-up assemblies & even complete VRO tanks very cheap on e-bay. I bought a complete tank for my 94 ocean runner for less then $75.00.

How much is the cost of a float assy compared to a p/h rebuild ???

I had to do a repair on the float assembly on my 1986 225hp Evinrude's oil reservoir several years ago. I assume it is the same as yours. There isn't a circuit board in my oil tank, rather a float that falls and bridges two contact points when down to a 1/4 tank. My problem was the wires from the tank to the fuel pump had something wrong at the conenction. I ended up soldering a new two lead wire at the float and running that wire back to the fuel pump, crimped on some amphenol ends and repalced the original wires with my new wires. getting the new wires with amphenol ends into the rubber connector is a chore. getting them out is easy.

I can send pictures if you'd like

I use the brand name amphenol to describe the male/female metal crimpon at the end of each wire, but i think amphenol is the maker of the rubber connectors.
