98 evinrude ocean pro 150 long shaft ficht fuel injection. are all ficht fuel injection engines vro? there is no vro tank on this engine. it came off a fish & wildlife dept. boat& was wondering if they could have a separate oil tank & kept it as they did the prop & controls, or should it be premixed at the gas pump? where would oil line be on engine? thanks cooney

Re: vro or mix my self?

All Fichts have a remote oil tant mounted somewhere in the boat. There will be two oil lines coming from it , one is 1/4"id, this is oil feed to the engine, and the other is 5/16" id , this is the oil return to the tank. Don't mix them up because one draws oil from the bottom of the tank and the other just dumps the extra oil back at the top. There is no VRO just a oil pump and a oil injector . The injector directs the oil via hoses into the crankcase after the reeds. You can't pre-mix fuel because the ficht system puts the fuel directly into the cylinder at the top of the head, not into the crankcase .If you didn't get one it sounds like they still got it. The hook-ups for the oil lines, throtle and shift ,fuel and the electrical all run through a hole on the starboard side of the lower cowl.

Hi, Cooney.

In most DFI 2 strokes only fuel is injected into the cylinder.

The oil is supplied to the crankcase.

If you used premix:
1. It might clog up the injector$,
and 2. The crank and rods would be denied lubrication. Either could destroy the engine.

Good luck. :)

Cooney, do a search in this forum, (top of page).
Search for "ficht", "ficht maintenance", ficht troubles", and you will get lots to read. Many owners have had problems, many have not. But you usually only hear about the problems.

Reading about others' troubles and the solutions to fix them, will give you the insight to keep yours running well.

I would also suggest you pick up an owners manual, and a shop or repair manual.
Try the link below to eBay auction, I think this is the manual for your engine.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1871798592

Good Luck.
