What part of your pump failed? Is it the oil side or is it the fuel side?
If it is the oil side you can just disconnect the oil hose that goes to the tank and do your own mixing. If it is the fuel side you will have to replace the entire thing.Or you can buy a much cheaper regular fuel pump hook it up and mix your own fuel.

Re: vro or no

VRO conversion w/ pump still working

if the fuel side on your Pump is still working it is very simple. unplug the 2 line harness going to the oil tank, unplug the 3 or 4 wire harness, going to the Vro pump. cut and cap the oil line going into the motor. add oil to fuel tank, mix well, then remove fuel line at top carb, catching gas in a container, pump the fuel line bulb until you get premixed gas to the carb. you can tell as it will change color. put line back on carb, and go boating.

This is Dhadley point of view on the subject.

Your 2001 motor did not come with a VRO pump but an OMS pump. Disconnecting it will disable some of the best protection systems available. With it working it will detect a fuel restriction, a possible engine killer, and compensate by pumping more oil. That won't happen with the oil side disconnected. It will also let you know if you're low on oil or if the carbs are not getting any oil at all. Neither of which you'll know about with the alarms disconnected. Well, you will know eventually...

It is your decision to make.

or completely replace with this. http://www.iboats.com/Sierra_18_735...z.36857--**********.884798459--view_id.174138

Re: vro or no

allright here is where im at with my 1989 evinrude 40. rebuilt the carbs, swapped the vro pump for the sierra 18-7353 fuel pump, replaced fuel lines.
currently having seepage from the fuel line coming off the fuel pump that goes to the tee. i asked my parts guy if 5/16 was the right diameter line since i thought the fit was sloppy and he said it was. motor starts doesnt run great. when i pump the bulb i can hear a bleeding out sound from the air box ,is this normal? lasty when i ran it in the test tank it really polluted the water that cant be right , right? thanks for your time and energy.

3 nipple black one is from tank, large one on body goes to the carbs, the other connect the the pulse line that ran the old vro. are you putting clamps on your fitting or the fuel line zip ties? either will work fine. when the carbs are empty, you will hear air escape as you pump the bulb.
