The pulse limiter can be of either type, some screw into the engine (#0435009), others have nipples on both sides that fit into the hose (#0435010). The main thing is that you have one so that if the engine backfires you don't blow out the pump membrane. One thing you don't want is one that is black -those were all supposed to be replaced.

My pump had black silicon instead of the o ring and I think this is why it failed. The o ring seals the housing. By the way, I purchased my boat new in 2000 and it never had a o ring.??? Maybe they started adding the o ring to prevent blowout from the silicon.

guys..I think i am frustrating everyon here,,including me...

This rebuild in not rocket science..and by looking at the picture provided by Ezeeke..I know 100% that I did it correctly..

lleleduke may be on to something regarding the o-ring but again..since I didnt have, have no where i see it will go..other than under the flapper rim, which i guess lifts the rim up possibly providing more flex and therefore move fuel movement??..I dont know..

at this point i may intsall and retest to see if it changes..

what i am trying to avod is chasing ghosts..seeing that the reeds control the pulse..etc... if you see what I am saying..

Lastly, on my engine I do not see the checkvalve in the pulse line..all i have is a brass fiting on the crank case that the hose comes off directly into the pump... if that helps solve some of the mystery..

It fits around that rim to seal the piston housing. The o-ring seals the air side of the piston housing that is why your engine kills from lack of back pressure.

well...i decide to take her a part again and install the O ring as suggested..
turns out the O ring is too large to fit in the spot that the diagram shows...

strangely..it seems to be large enough for the air side of the vro..but the diagram shows it on the fuel side..

I'm wondering if the body changed on the post 1997 models and thefore a bit larger??? anyone?...
