Hi, I've got an 87/ 50hp with VRO.
I got it in pieces to rebuild for myself.. I intend to remove theVRO section however accourding to the docs, there is an electic primer (choke), is it part of the VRO? or a suppose to be a seperate unit?.. The VRO unit is all in tact,, the base of the carbs have a fine tube to prime the engine, No Butterfly flap choke. Assistance is appreciated..
very basic info in the Clymer book regarding this..
Thanks.
Stan

Re: VRO Questions

Forgot to mention, most of the hoses have been disconnected and fittings are gone, this is why I am not sure if it is part of the VRO.
stan

What hoses, and fittings are gone? Do you mean the VRO is disconnected? You certainly want to be sure about this. The primer, and VRO are seperate units.

Re: VRO Questions

Hi.
Yes, the vro is disconnected, (it is out of the unit right now), keep in mind this engine is in need of a re-build.. I will not use the VRO as a VRO, it will be a mixed system.. You mentioned that the primer and VRO are seperate units.. ok, is the primer an electric unit? or does it still run off vaccum.. a freind told me that his engine's primer only comes in when he cranks the engine and pushes the choke button.. he also mentioned that by lifting a leaver, you can manually prime.. If in deed it is a seperate unit, then I have to find one or make one.
tks.
stan

Re: VRO Questions

There are two electric systems apart from the manual butterfly choke. Your friends is most likely a mechanic butterfly system, driven by a solenoid. Thus the little lever to close the choke butterfly manually. His motor is older. If yours is a 87 it will come with the little electric primer solenoid, which is a kind of a little piston pump that squirts fuel in intake thru 2 hoses and small jets. Its a little black unit, hosed to a tee in one of the fuel lines to carbs, and with two thin hoses to intake/manifold bypass cover.
