Anyone know the correct "fuel only" replacement pump number for a 91' 70 HP rude?? I've pre-mixed for years and now I'm going to replace the pump, but have no need for the oil side. Just need a fuel only replacement pump. Or should I just rebuild it if there is a kit that will work? Any ideas??

Re: VRO replacement pump suggestions

There are kits available for the gas side and motor side of the pump Rick....darn cheaper than a fuel only pump. If you go to the BRP site under engine diagrams, choose OB Accessories. Then select fuel. You can see a pump breakdown and what' available. The kits are in the P&A catalog....course it's at the shop. I'll be there in a couple hours and will post the numbers for ya'.

Jim

Thanks OBJ! I would feel better about replacing it now, rather than have problems down the road. In the past, I have seen threads about replacement pumps, Repair kits and using pumps off of the 88 specials...Not sure which route would be the best..Thanks again...

Why not just use the ordinary 1983 70hp fuel pump and hoses if you do not want the "VRO" system?

There ya' go Rick...what seahorse said. I think the gas only replacement for the VRO pump would be overkill anyway. Pump 398399 and a little change in plumbing would work for ya'.

Can't get that number to come up OBJ. Will 385784 work as well? That's from the 83' model 70 HP. A 1991 88 special uses a 398387 or a 433387 number. What's the difference?? Why all the pump number changes?

Re: VRO replacement pump suggestions

I looked at an 84' 70hp and the original pn superceded up to the number I posted. The number you posted superceds up to 438599. Not real sure what the diff is..... Anyway....in the Master Part Number book...it says to use PN 438557 for 2 and 3 cylinder engines which supercedes the 398399. How's that for confusing..... :D

Little more info....the replacement gas only pump for the VRO PN438402 runs about $170 from BRP.

VRO repair kits.....from BRP

Airmotor kit...435921 $16.10
Fuel piston kit...436095 $20.48
Motor housing kit...174127...$5.89

Help any or just make it more confusion..... :D :D

Re: VRO replacement pump suggestions

Yes OBJ, that helps!! I think I'll go with the "438557" for 2 and 3 cylinder" engines pump. But let me ask you one more thing. If I go the rebuild route, do I need to get all of these to do it right?

Airmotor kit...435921 $16.10
Fuel piston kit...436095 $20.48
Motor housing kit...174127...$5.89

Or just the fuel piston kit??

Thanks for lookin' all that up for me. I appreciate it greatly....

Re: VRO replacement pump suggestions

I usually bench test the pump before I decide what I would need. Sometimes you just need the fuel end....sometimes just the motor end....but if you did go this route and (here's one of those "IF IT WAS ME" things) I'd rebuild the whole front end.....even if it was just for piece of mind. Parts are cheap enough and it don't take long.

Re: VRO replacement pump suggestions

Thanks, OBJ. I'm gonna ponder this one a bit and decide which route I want to go. About the same price to rebuild as it is to buy the other pump. Like you, I would want to do it all. Huuuuummmm.....
