89 200 v6 Can anyone tell what the vacuum switch do that is mounted on the VRO pump? Could it be leaking air into the fuel lines at idle. Runs great everywhere but idle.

Re: VRO Vacuum Switch ?

The vacuum switch monitors the fuel pump suction side for low pressures caused by fuel system restrictions. An alarm will sound if pressure is too low.....

Is your compression even?

Re: VRO Vacuum Switch ?

there is no vacum switch mounted on the VRO and nothing that monitors pressure period.
ok, yea it does but typically we monitor it in inchs of mercury or Hg.
its sometimes a difference between old school and new school.
the vacum switch is mounted on the fuel intake side, its looking for a 6"Hg difference.
on intake manifold stuff we measure manifold absolute pressure or MAP.
its the inverse of manifold vacum.
then we can do it in KPa,milibars, inchs Hg or PSI.
gets rather confusing depending on who made it and whose software your using.
but to answer your question, I really doubt your idle issue is the vacum switch and if ya think it is simply pinch off the sense hose while its idling.

Re: VRO Vacuum Switch ?

Its all in terminology rodbolt.

We are measuring pressure period.
Whether its in comparison to atmosphere or an absolute vacuum, its still pressure.

"HG, Bar, PSI, KPa are simply "units of measure"

Re: VRO Vacuum Switch ?

The vacuum switch was put in the vro intake side of the fuel system. If you had a fuel system restriction, either fuel tank, primer bulb, pinched fuel line and ect it would cause your alarm to go off. They are normally set at 7" hg. If you suspect one sucking air have somebody pump the primer bulb and look for any fuel leaks around it.

Thanks boobie, Its not leaking fuel and no alarms so it must be working ok, I will try to pinch line see if it has any effect on it. I also read the fuel inlet nipple has a o-ring on it where it screws into the VRO, I'm going to check for bad o-ring. I'm trying to fix rough idle and sneeze problem.

Re: VRO Vacuum Switch ?

Sneeze probs and rough idle are normally caused by carb probs providing the compression and ignition systems are okay.
