VRO Wires?

I have what I am sure is a very simple question: I have a 1986, 90HP Johnson with VRO. Where do the two wires coming out of the oil tank plug into? One has a male end and one has a female end.

one wire attaches to the brown wire coming out of the wire harness near the red plug.
the other can go to a clean engine ground.
assuming its an original tank? the low oil warning should beep the horn every 20-40 seconds when oil is low approx 1\3 left in tank.
too say those sensors were problematic would be an understatement. Everything from not working to erratic horn soundings.
