This post will show you how nuts I get when it comes to buying another rig. I am looking for a Bay Boat or CC in the 18' class. I hate to buy new, because laying out 20K for a new rig drives me nuts when I scratch itand think of the $ I lose because of depreciation the second I move it off the lot. I hate forking out 10K for a rig because if it has problems, I figure that I should have laid out the additional 10K for new. I like laying out 5K so that I don't have to worry about putting a new ding or two on it. The problem with 5K is that the engine may be old and not really reliable. Then there's the whole question of Bay Boat or CC.
:( :( :( :( Stalker

If ya got the money, buy a new one. Think of all the people that money will go to help. Plus peace of mind that if it breaks, you got a warranty.

If ya dont have the money, buy used.

Ken

Sorry, I see this very differently. A boat nice enough to get a $10k price is unlikely to have problems in the first place (compared to a $5k boat  ). Furthermore, even if some problem does develop it will likely be fixed for a fraction of that $10k difference to the $20k new boat (assuming you don't have to replace the entire motor).

Ok, I confess that would be a tough one for me too :D . Try looking at those bay boats that have better offshore characteristics than most bay boats. Plus the lighter CC models (with 20" transom). That would be the converging solution.

Kelly Cook

Sorry, I'm new. Is Bay boat a Bayliner and is CC a Chris Craft? Thanks

Nope, a bay boat is an outboard powered open fishing boat. CC is a Center Console, which is also an outboard powered (most of the time) open fishing boat. Very similar designs, just different proportions and focus. Both Bayliner and Chris-Craft built CC models in years past, but this is not what they are usually known for.

Kelly

Or a cc could be a cuddy cabin.
or a cozy canoe :)
